The EPSRC Image-Guided Therapies UK Network+ has announced details of its next two calls for applications. Details of both funding opportunities are outlined below.

Early Career Researcher Level: Research Mobility call

Early Career Researcher Level: Research Mobility. Funds are available for two to three PhD students from IGT Network+ partners to spend three months at a partner IGT Network+ institution (university or industry; rent and living costs covered, up to a maximum of £3000). This provides training for the PhD students giving them the opportunity to work closely with their peers and transfer knowledge and know-how between partner institutions.

This funding is to support secondment to industrial collaborators and across academic network partners, especially where this can be a mechanism for transitioning EPSRC funded research into clinical translation. Early career researchers or research students can benefit from spending time in a complementary research environment, contributing to each institution’s research and training programmes, providing access to wider disciplines and industrial exposure as well as maximising the use of network-wide facilities and resources.

These secondments should nurture interdisciplinary research ideas that will ideally allow late-state PhD students and postdocs to conceptualise and submit successful EPSRC applications within the remit of Healthcare Technologies. Knowledge should be shared and transferred, consolidating partnerships and encouraging sustainability of the research programmes initiated.

Partnership Programme: Proof-of-Concept call

Funds are available to support two to three PDRAs from IGT Network+ partners to spend six months at another partner institution (university or industry; ideally two partners but in practice larger collaborations will be considered), with the host partner preferably matching funding to extend this to 12 months – therefore providing six-months of matched funding (while this matched funding would be preferred it is not essential). These proof-of-concept studies are critical for obtaining pilot data and developing complete EPSRC and other grant applications that provide the long-term support of the IGT Network+.

Funding for each project is capped at £50,000. This is calculated at 100% full economic cost (fEC), with the IGT Network contributing at 80% fEC.

There are also funds for PI visits to partner institutions at the beginning and end of the 12 month secondment and funds for five visits per RA over the 12 months of their secondment to their home institution.
