The Network+ offers two main funding opportunities to its members which are designed to encourage collaboration between partner institutions and support innovative IGT research which are now open for applications.
Current call opens: Monday 16th October 2017
Application deadline: Monday 18th December 2017
Results announced: Friday 05th January 2018
PhD students and early career researchers are invited to apply for IGT Network+ Mobility Grants to spend time at another partner organisation (higher education institute or industry). This scheme is a flexible platform to help junior researchers establish relationships with their UK counterparts, develop and strengthen innovative research projects and promote a collaborative work ethic with their peers. Research projects should be interdisciplinary in nature and we encourage applications where this scheme can facilitate the translation of EPSRC funded research into a clinical setting and/or allow late-state PhD students and early career researchers to develop successful EPSRC applications within the remit of Healthcare Technologies.
What we offer: Our Mobility Grants will contribute towards travel, accommodation and subsistence costs when visiting the partner organisation. The amount of funding awarded will be dependent on the length of the visit.
- One-off visits: Visits can last between 2 weeks – 3 months (up to £3000 is available, maximum of £250 per week)
- Multiple visits: Multiple visits to the same organisation can be undertaken over a period of 6 months (up to £3500 is available, £500 of which can be spent on consumables for device development, this excludes the purchase of computers and software licenses)
Proof of Concept Awards
Funds are available to support postdoctoral research associates from IGT Network+ partners to spend between one to six months at another partner organisation (university or industry; ideally two partners but in practice larger collaborations will be considered), with the host partner preferably contributing further funding to extend secondments (while this matched/additional funding would be preferred it is not essential). These proof-of-concept studies are critical for obtaining pilot data and developing complete EPSRC and other grant applications.
What we offer: Funding for each project is capped at £50,000 over 6 months, or pro rata for shorter durations. This is calculated at 100% full economic cost (fEC), with the IGT Network contributing at 80% fEC. Funding from a Proof-of-concept grant will support research associates’ salary and travel costs between partner organisations. Equipment and consumable costs will be decided at the panels discretion. Funds cannot be used to purchase computers, software licenses or principle investigator time.
Additional funds are available for PI visits to partner organisations at the beginning and end of the secondment and for one visit (every two months) per research associate during their secondment to their home organisation.
